Programs

SO YOU WANT TO BE A LAWYER

So You Want to Be a Lawyer is a flagship program. The brainchild of LAULYP President Justin Sanders, the program encourages elementary and high school students to become attorneys. The students spend the day at the United States District Court, participate in a mock trial, and discuss career options with prominent Los Angeles attorneys.

FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS

Financial Connections (sponsored by Citibank) and Know Your Money (sponsored by American Honda) are economic empowerment programs designed to teach money management strategies to African Americans in need. The curriculum of both programs is designed to help participants understand their attitudes about money, establish a household budget and manage financial tools.

CATALYST MAGAZINE

Catalyst is the full color quarterly magazine produced and distributed by the Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals offering readers thought provoking, life changing and entertaining content. The magazine is designed to create a forum for young professionals to contribute ideas for social progress, discuss pivotal topics and ultimately, inspire action to affect the growth and development of Southern California’s African American community and the society at large.

Our Mission

The mission of the LAULYP is to support the objectives of the Los Angeles Urban League as it strives to improve the quality of life for African-Americans and other minorities through community service, professional development, social consciousness, political involvement and social interaction.

Membership Info

The annual dues are $50 based on the calendar year, and we recommend at least 12 hours of service or participation, not including general body meetings and social engagements. In order to meet the service commitment, there are numerous committees that host various events throughout the year. Members can satisfy this commitment with participation in the many committees that plan and execute the LAULYP’s various events.
